Varietals > White > Albariño
A white wine grape grown in Galicia (northwest Spain). The Albariño type wines have a straw yellowish colour, with golden and green nuances. Their fine and unique bouquet is fruity and floral; it is very pleasant, of average intensity and average-long duration. Their taste is fresh and mild, full-bodied and with an adequate alcoholic degree, balanced acidity, harmonious and with many pleasant nuances. Its persisting taste is pleasant, elegant and complete.
It is mainly found in Galicia, Madrid and Ávila. It is an authorised Ribeiro DO variety, and a major variety in Vinos de Madrid DO.
It is thought by some[to be a Riesling clone originating from the Alsace region of France although some believe that the grape is actually a close relative of the French grape Petit Manseng.
